The American English Coonhound, also referred to as the Redtick Coonhound or simply the English Coonhound, is an active breed that requires more than just a small yard to keep its energy needs met. Originally recognized in the early 1900s as a hunting dog, this coonhound is still popular with many hunters today. Because of their superb hunting instinct, the American English Coonhound must be kept on a leash in unsafe places. However, these dogs can make excellent pets if taken on daily long walks or runs.
