Originally bred in Louisiana, the Bluetick Coonhound was developed from a French breed as a hunting dog. Like other hounds, Blueticks are difficult to train, so experienced owners will do best with them. They will require daily long walks and should not be confined to the small space of an apartment, as they need lots of space to run (though they shouldn’t be let off leash unless they’re in a safe, enclosed area). When well-trained by an assertive, confident owner, the Bluetick Coonhound can make an excellent companion, loyal and good with children.
