Coton de Tulear is a breed of dog whose name is inspired by the city of Tulear in Madagascar combined with its cotton-like coat. This rare breed is currently being brought back from near extinction and is extremely expensive, with puppies costing up to $3,500 per dog. This is a smaller breed whose weight averages 8 – 13 pounds for males and 7 – 11 pounds for females. They have a very soft hair instead of fur, a black nose, large eyes and short legs. Unlike fur found with most dog breeds, their hair does not shed and is considered hypoallergenic. Grooming can prove difficult though as the coat can become matted. Coton de Tulear dogs are very playful and intelligent. Although typically quite, they can become vocal when having fun. This breed is known for becoming active later in the day.
