There is a wonderful little dog that will steal your heart as soon as you see him. Is this a new breed of dog or is it a mutt?

Actually, the Yorkie Bichon mix is neither an American Kennel Club recognized breed nor a mutt. So what are they? They are a hybrid dog or what has come to be called a designer dog. A hybrid or designer dog is not an official breed; however, many a breed has begun through this type of breeding that leads to AKC-recognized breeds.

A hybrid is offspring of breeding different species of plants or animals. The Yorkie Bichon is a cross between a Yorkshire Terrier and a Bichon Frise. They go by many names including the Yochon, the Bichon Yorkie, the Yorkiechon, a Borkie, a Yorkshire Frise and the Yorkie Chon.

The Yorkie Bichon mix has some physical characteristics of each breed, the exact percentages depending on whether the dog is a 50-50 designer dog. If so, you should have a small and healthy dog. You will also be getting a dog that loves and needs to be active. An inactive Yorkie Bichon mix loves to eat and will become overweight easily. This is not good for any dog, but especially not for a dog as small as the Yorkie Chon.

So they need exercise and play, whether with humans or other dogs. They love to run on walks, at dog parks, or in yards. They don’t have to be outside to play and exercise though, as they are small enough to play with inside. The Yorkie Bichon does well with other dogs. So whether you want to get two so they can play together or take your solo Yochon to the dog park, your dog(s) will do well.

Yorkiechon puppies do just as well with some big dogs as well as the small and medium ones. Some big dogs will not be appropriate as they will be too rough, and others will not know what to think of this little thing. There will, however, be those special big dogs that know how to be gentle and love your little guy. Still, your best bets are medium and small dogs.

The Yorkiechon does not shed so they are great for people who are allergic to dog dander and hair. They are easy to train but you need to start when they are young puppies. They need to know you are in charge and the sooner you start training, the better the adult dog will obey you.

Personality Traits of Yochon Puppies

The Yochon is anything but small in personality. They do not think they are small dogs. Most small designer dogs do not. Be careful what you ask of them or expose them to as they will not back down from whatever is challenging them. The problem is they act and think big, but you must remind them they are small and at times protect them from themselves.

They are content to be with you and they will not demand that you play with them. They will happily sit in your lap all day, though they will be healthier and happier if you do play with them. They will love kids and love to play with kids. You also have to watch this interaction to be sure the children do not hurt the dog. Have your kids walk the dog. They love to go for walks and run in open areas. The Yorkie Chon has the tenacity and resilience of the Yorkshire Terrier, and the warm, loving, and happy personality of the Bichon Frise. They are funny and quick to learn tricks. They will keep you amused and entertained. They also make good watchdogs.

The internet is probably the place you will find the most Yorkie Bichon puppies for sale. However you can also find some in your local papers, shelters and in rescue organizations for either pure breed. If you find a breeder online look for their Yorkie Bichon puppies to be registered with the American Canine Hybrid Club or another of the official hybrid or designer registries.

Are Yorkie Bichon Puppies Good Family Dogs?

The easy answer is yes. They love children and they love to romp and play. Just keep in mind what was said earlier about their size and their tenacity. Tell your children to be careful how they play with them so they do not hurt the new puppy. They are easy to care for and don’t take up much space.

They can be stubborn, so it’s important to establish who the alpha is early on. Again, keep an eye on their interaction with your children and teach your children not to try to out-stubborn a Yorkchon.

Caring for Your Yochon Puppy

Are you ready for a Yorkie Chon puppy? Yes, they are adorable, and when you see a litter of Yochon puppies it may be hard to resist taking one home, but there are some things you should remember and be prepared for. Before you get your puppy you need to do a few things.

• Once you have chosen a puppy from the breeder (and designer dogs should be purchased from legitimate breeders only), make sure you visit the Yorkchon puppies as much as you can and bond with your puppy before you take her home.
• When it’s time to take her home, make sure you have already purchased food, treats, a bed or a ramp to your bed, and toys.
• Have a training plan including whether to crate or not. Make sure you have a collar or harness and leash.
• Make sure your home is safe for the puppy. Make sure all dangers are out of reach. This includes potential poisons and making sure electrical cords are out of the way so the puppy will not chew on them.

The Yorkie Bichon is a great little dog. Just make sure he is the right dog for you. Don’t choose the Yorkie Chon based on his looks. Yes he is a handsome little dog, but don’t take him home to live with you just because he is cute. Be sure to think carefully through your decision before choosing to buy a dog.
