The Norwegian Buhund is a medium-sized herding dog that has survived since the time of the Vikings. Used for assistance and therapy dogs for those with hearing loss, epilepsy, and other ailments, this dog is chosen due to their desire to please their people and their high intelligence. These dogs are well suited to a busy family in that they will happily play with the children, stay quiet during quiet time and will tolerate being home while their family is at work/school. Despite their longer coat, grooming requirements are minimal with this dog consisting of a brushing out every 2-4 days. They do well in almost any environment and require moderate exercise needs. They are also known as the Nordiske Sitz-hunde, Norsk Buhund, and the Norwegian Sheepdog.
